iPhone 6 battery life. IPhone Xs and Xs Max: how do they hold a charge and how much do they charge? Apple Pay works great, but there's nowhere to use it

The new ones continue to excite the public and excite the minds of the mobile audience. New items seem to be no different from their predecessor, but still gain a lot of interest from users. There are many topics that get the most attention after the official launch of the smartphone. One of these is the question of the battery. How long does the iPhone Xs and Xs Max battery last in everyday life, how long do new items charge - we will answer these questions further.

How long does the battery last?

iPhone Xs Max received the highest battery capacity among all iPhones in the Apple line - 3179 mAh, but this did not help him take the lead. We're pretty sure the new iPhone battery test champion will be the iPhone Xr.

Battery capacity

  • iPhone X - 2716 mAh
  • iPhone Xs - 2658 mAh
  • iPhone Xs Max - 3179 mAh
  • iPhone Xr - 2942 mAh

In terms of capacity, the iPhone Xs Max should score the longest runtime score of an iPhone, and the iPhone Xs should score about the same as the iPhone X. But here's what we found in a real test, and not based on dry statistics from Apple.

The operating time of the iPhone Xs Max on a single battery charge was 9 hours and 34 minutes. iPhone Xs lasted almost an hour less - 8 hours and 37 minutes, while iPhone X showed a result of 8 hours and 41 minutes. The iPhone 8 Plus remains the highest at 10 hours and 35 minutes, although its battery capacity is smaller than that of the iPhone Xs Max. In relation to the performance of other flagships on Android, you can see the comparison of the results in the chart above.

How long does it take to charge?

This story is a little sadder than the previous one. Real tests have shown that it takes 209 minutes to charge the iPhone Xs Max - that's almost three and a half hours. It also takes just over three hours to charge the iPhone Xs. Android smartphones can charge much faster due to the fast charging technology that comes with the device. But iPhone owners have to buy a device for fast charging separately.

Last month, Wandera experts conducted a study comparing the battery life of smartphones and tablets with iOS 11 and iOS 10 on board.

We also decided to see how long the iPhone with iOS 11 can live. Testing was carried out on the first version of the operating system on three iPhone 7 Plus, one iPhone 7 and one iPhone 5s.

What did we get

The test considers various use cases for greater clarity. The results surprised.

1. Artyom Bausov, iPhone 7, Moscow, Russia

Battery status: 97%

Firstly, it took about 2 hours to write the news. After that, I switched to a MacBook and distributed the Internet to it in modem mode.

In parallel with this, I actively corresponded in Telegram, iMessage and Messenger. In total, 40 minutes. Well, I listened to music for 6 hours in a row.

My iPhone 7 ran out of battery in 8.5 hours.

Outcome: a large load was during the activation of the modem mode, then the smartphone was used even more than in normal mode.

2. Nikita Goryainov, iPhone 7 Plus, Voronezh, Moscow, Russia

Battery status: 92%

Most of the time was spent surfing Google Chrome - 2.5 hours. It took about an hour to communicate in Skype, Messenger and Slack.

The rest is trifles: the use of Instagram, Twitter and other light programs, as well as mobile shooting.

Smartphone of the editor-in-chief discharged in 7.5 hours.

Outcome: The highest load occurred during Internet surfing, as well as during mobile shooting.

3. Roman Yuriev, iPhone 7 Plus, Chernihiv, Ukraine

Battery status: 95%

He used his smartphone to a bare minimum, spending 15 minutes of gaming, 10 minutes of talking, 10 minutes of Tweetbot, and 5 minutes of video recording.

In fact, this is the best indicator among all tested models.

Ultimately, his the smartphone was discharged by 45% in 12 hours. There was no particularly heavy load on the gadget, the result is obvious.

Outcome: Viber, WhatsApp and Messenger consumed the most charge in the background activity mode.

4. Maxim Klimenchuk, iPhone 5s, Secret

Battery status: 96%

Per 3.5 hours the smartphone managed to be discharged, although they played Clash Royale for an hour on it, scrolled through Instagram for half an hour, spent the same amount on web surfing through Safari, and talked for 28 minutes.

At one point, Maxim spent about 40 minutes in a bad signal zone. The network was searched periodically.

Outcome: The most problematic was the Clash Royale application, which wasted 38% of the charge. Instagram has also made its mark during low-signal background refresh.

5. Maxim Kurmaev, iPhone 7 Plus, Moscow, Russia

Battery status: 90%

The first thing you should pay attention to is a constant connection to the Wi-Fi network, he did not use the mobile Internet during the day of testing.

Of the listed loads, Maxim noted: 3.5 hours on Telegram, 1.5 hours on VKontakte, 1 hour on Facebook, 1 hour on Tweetbot, 1 hour on Apple Music and half an hour of web surfing in Safari.

His smartphone discharged after 10 hours of active use.

Outcome: the main load on the processor came from instant messengers and social networks. Not surprising, because they use a permanent connection to the Internet.

Let's summarize

In general, iOS 11 lives quite confidently on modern gadgets, which cannot be said about old people like the iPhone 5s.

It seems that the main load on the battery comes from social networks, working both in the background and actively. On average, they consume internet traffic 50% of the time.

And if the Network is lost, then the battery is discharged a little faster (by about 10-15%). Personally, I have noticed on my own that such problems in iOS 11 occur much more often than in iOS 10.

The firmware has ceased to adequately maintain the signal level, which led to more energy consumption.

However, the difference is small, but can sometimes be noticeable. It remains to wait for corrections from Apple. We hope that this will happen with the release of iOS 11.1.

The latest iPhone 6 and its big brother, the iPhone 6 Plus, have caused a significant increase in sales of the most famous phone on the planet. Suffice it to recall the pre-orders of the new device and the surpassed record figures.

To determine which Apple model to choose, it is important to take into account the volume and, accordingly, the battery life span in the iPhone 6. Many, of course, are interested in how long the Apple battery holds? Let's say right away, if you want to discharge the gadget quickly, then you will not succeed!

It can be immediately noted that the battery in the latest Iphone 6 from the famous Apple Corporation has become 30 percent more capacious than in the previous version of the 5s. The replacement came in handy. A case, like a battery, is also needed. At the same time, knowing how well the battery works in 5 s, we can say for sure that the battery capacity in the new gadget will greatly please the user and, continuously, he can do a lot.

We can also conclude that the battery in the latest large Iphone 6 Plus is designed for ultra-extreme use of the device, because the capacity of the Iphone 6 Plus and the time before it runs out of power will please anyone who uses it.

The battery, the capacity of which is simply significant, was created by the developers specifically for the latest functions of the device. The presented Apple device is unimaginably thrifty in battery consumption. Now you can use the latest features and applications all day long. The battery, the capacity of which is simply a record, cannot be discharged quickly. The only difference is how long it takes the owner to do certain manipulations.
The battery of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus differ in their own indicators regarding how long the device works. You can give the figures for the duration of the operation of these models of devices, which are declared until the moment the device is discharged, in standby mode.

On the Iphone 6 from the well-known Apple company, the battery capacity allows you to use audio files for 50 ampere-hours. Replacement of the Plus model in this case will be required after 80 hours. Therefore, if you ask "how much", the answer is quite simple - a lot.
If we talk about HD video files, then they can be used for 11 hours. If we talk about Plus, then the device holds this indicator for 14 hours. As you can see, it is difficult to quickly discharge the device.
The smartphone holds an Internet connection in Wi Fi for 11 ampere-hours. Replacement in the Plus device will be required by the user after 12 hours. The battery, whose capacity is impressive, cannot be discharged quickly.
Internet connection in 3 G the phone also keeps quite a long time. The question is how much? Replacement in the smartphone will be required after 10 ampere-hours. The user will need a replacement in the Plus smartphone after 12 hours.
Replacement as a result of continuous conversations in 3G will be required by the user after 14 amp-hours. Replacement in the Plus model will require the lamer after 24 hours. The device really does not run out quickly.

The standby mode of the new device from the popular Apple Corporation holds for ten days, and to be more precise, this figure is 250 hours.

If we talk about the Plus model, then it keeps the standby mode for sixteen days, and more precisely, it lasts 384 hours.
Thus, we can confidently state that the new Apple iPhone does not run out quickly, and the question - how much - is no longer a question. A case is also needed so that the device can be comfortably and safely used.

On September 26, on the first day of Russian sales, I bought a new 64 GB iPhone 6. For 2 weeks, many moments of using the device became clear, which I did not have time to notice and reflect in a large text review. In this article, I will share my experience of operating a new smartphone and tell you what points you should pay special attention to.

Body and ergonomics

After 2 weeks, the iPhone 6 has not lost in its attractiveness at all - I'm not talking about chips and scratches (which, however, did not appear), but in the perception of appearance. The “six” looks good, especially the front panel, thanks to the beautifully rounded glass around the edges. All my friends who held a smartphone in their hands spoke well of the build quality and appearance.

However, during the operation, an unpleasant moment appeared due to the fact that the iPhone 6 is unsteady in the hand. Due to its phenomenal lightness and thinness, the “six” wants to be picked up again and again. However, if you put the phone to your ear during a conversation or simply hold it with one hand at a free distance from the body, you will constantly feel discomfort - the roundness of the case makes itself felt and the phone tries to slip out.

Reachability mode is not a panacea, because in order to activate it, you have to go down with your finger to the Home button, tap on it twice and only then perform the necessary action. Perhaps it would be worth simply reducing the active area of the screen to the resolution of the iPhone 5 / c / s?

Therefore, a week after the purchase, I bought a bumper, which I advise you to do too. Firstly, the phone will lie in your hands more confidently, secondly, you will solve the problem with the protruding camera, and thirdly, protect it from external influences. Which bumper or cover to buy is a personal matter, but I advise you to take an accessory made of good materials: aluminum (like mine), leather, or at least high-quality plastic.

Screen

There are no problems with the size of the 4.7-inch screen. In principle, you can almost always use the iPhone 6 with one hand. However, there will be more situations when you need to intercept the device or use a second hand, get ready.

In general, this characteristic "convenient to operate with one hand" requires a more detailed justification. Everyone's palms are different, some are comfortable with the iPhone 6 Plus or Galaxy Note 4, and some still use the iPhone 4/S and earlier and love the compact screen. Whether intercepts of the apparatus fit the definition of “conveniently operated with one hand” is also an open question.

The lock button, located on the right side, is perceived as if it has always been there. For me, it falls exactly under the thumb, so locking / unlocking occurs without problems. It won't take long to get used to it.

As for the picture quality, it is excellent on the iPhone 6. Be sure to write it down on a piece of paper: for a more complete enjoyment of the design, buy only version of Space Gray. So the screen and the black front panel will be perceived as one, without any noticeable frames. In silver and gold devices, such a border is clearly visible, and a visible light sensor from above does not add any advantages to these colors.

Speed and stability

The iPhone 6 is fast and almost stable, but the problems encountered are solely due to the dampness of iOS 8 itself. It is still full of all sorts of unpleasant bugs, but Apple is already working on an update to iOS 8.1, which should solve most of the problems.

Touch ID doesn't always work as expected. It seems that Apple is actively saying that putting your finger on and unlocking the screen is much faster and more convenient than entering a password or “slide-to-unlock”. But quite often the scanner does not read the information correctly and does not allow access to the home screen. This also happens with the usual position of the finger when unlocking, but it happens especially often with a non-standard grip, for example, when you try to unlock the screen “upside down”. Remembering the iPhone 5s, I am sure that the problem here is more of a software nature, so again we are waiting for iOS 8.1.

One of the funniest iOS 8 bugs on the iPhone 6 is Spotlight in decay mode and icons overlapping each other

All applications work quickly, but an absolute minority of them are now adapted to the new screen resolution. For clarity, let's look at my first desktop - out of 19 third-party applications, only 6 are adapted for iPhone 6: Pocket, Wunderlist, Flipboard, Telegram, Swarm, Tweetbot. Such frequently used applications as Mailbox, Reeder, the official client of VKontakte, Instagram or CoinKeeper for the "six" have not yet been adapted.

But looking into the “Updates” tab in the App Store, almost every 2 days I see an application updated and adapted to a new resolution. Therefore, it remains only to wait, I think this is a matter of the next few months.

Camera

Everything is very good with this. I don’t feel any lack of megapixels, which could be expressed by insufficient detail and image accuracy. Aperture 2.2 allows you to take good pictures even in poor lighting conditions, in addition, the front camera has the same aperture value, so selfies are obtained as they should.

Slo-mo at 240 fps looks much cooler than what was in the iPhone 5s. Normal video is shot in good quality and with good sound.

Working hours

In the early days of use, the battery life of the iPhone 6 depressed me, I saw almost no improvement compared to the iPhone 5, which barely kept 5 hours of active use and asked to be charged twice a day.

I don’t know what happened next - either the optimized applications gave such an effect, or the battery itself “fired up”, but now the iPhone 6 works an honest full day. Usually, I take it off charge at 9-9:30 in the morning and it is completely discharged with my usage model (mail, social networks, Internet, music, photos) only by 10 pm. It turned out that I generally can not carry a charger with me during the day, which is good news.

More than 12 hours of work from one charge - excellent result

Of course, we all use the phone in our own way, so my positive experience cannot be extended to absolutely everyone. So, the iPhone sits down very quickly in games (Asphalt Overdrive is enough for 2-2.5 hours of play when fully charged, with Real Racing 3, Modern Combat 5 or Infinity Blade the situation will be at least no better). But as practice shows, it is the work with mail, social networks, the Internet and music that is the most common way people use the iPhone. Therefore, a pleasant surprise awaits you here.

Get the 64GB version only

I recently went to M.Video and was surprised to find that the 64 GB iPhone 5s costs 35 thousand rubles, while the 64 GB iPhone 6 costs only 2 thousand rubles more - 37 thousand. This year is a unique situation, due to the fact that Apple has changed the lineup from 16-32-64 GB to 16-64-128 GB. That is why buying the 64 GB version will be the best investment.

Agree, in modern realities, when we take tons of photos, install hundreds of applications and games, 16 GB is not enough. With 64 GB, I don’t worry about whether I should delete extra photos or applications, because there are more than 40 GB (!) of memory free. Believe me, this "peace" is worth the money.

What else?

If you have any questions about the iPhone 6, I'll be happy to answer them in the comments. It would be great to hear the experience of other owners of the "six" in order to compare their impressions with yours and get a more complete picture.

I categorically welcome! Remember buying your first phone? If this happened in the early to mid-2000s, then remember what characteristics played a paramount role for you? I will give an almost 100% guarantee that the issue of battery capacity was considered at the very least, if considered at all. She (the battery) is there, and okay, and almost no one was interested in what indicators she had.

Now, the time that the phone can work without a charger is almost the main criterion when choosing. After all, none of us wants to live “from socket to socket” and charge a smartphone 2-3 times a day.

I can immediately note the fact that the autonomy indicators of the iPhone are at a fairly good level. You can say above the "average in the ward." And this despite the fact that in pursuit of design, the desire to make the gadget thinner and lighter, Apple does not install high-capacity batteries in its devices. How can a compromise be reached? The answer is simple - iOS. System optimization solves a lot, and here Apple managed to achieve excellent results.

And now, let's take a look at the iPhone's battery life for each model separately. Let's not disturb the "oldies", simply because the relevance of these models today is minimal (after all, they came out), but let's start with the most popular iPhones in Russia.

Note! All data in the tables for battery capacities are in milliamp hours (mAh) and usage time in hours.

How long does an iPhone 4 and 4s charge

Let's go straight to the official data.

iPhone 4iPhone 4S
Battery capacity1420 1430
Standby mode300 200
Talk time (2G network)14 14
Talk time (3G network)7 8
Listening to music40 40

As you can see, with a slight increase in battery size, smartphones work approximately the same. The only thing is that for the iPhone 4s, the talk time in 3g networks has increased. It is unlikely that the extra 10 mAh played a role, but rather the matter is in the improved processor and wireless communication chip. Although for the sake of justice, from my own experience I can see that they hold the charge in the same way - it is almost impossible to notice the difference.

iPhone 5, 5s and 5c battery capacity and runtime

iPhone 5iPhone 5SiPhone 5C
Battery capacity1400 1560 1507
Standby mode225 250 250
Talk time (3G network)8 10 10
Listening to music40 40 40

The difference is not so big, and although the data is official, it is still approximate. A lot will depend on how you use the device. It immediately catches your eye that the iPhone 5s smartphone has a smaller battery capacity than the iPhone 5c, but they work the same way. Why?

  • A more powerful processor and the presence of a fingerprint scanner require a little more energy, which is offset by a larger battery.

How long does it take to charge an iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

And finally, the sixth iPhones! Is there any point in paying the one that is asked for them? Has there been a qualitative leap in the time of work? Let's take a look!

And here are the results. Agree, the battery capacity of the “plus” is impressive, and the “sixth” has distinguished itself, both the talk time and listening to music have decently increased. This alone encourages the purchase of a new gadget!

iPhone 6S and 6S Plus battery life

In the improved iPhone 6 series, Apple has "cut" the battery capacity compared to their younger brothers - the usual "six". Moreover, given how reluctant the company is to increase the batteries in its gadgets, such “cuts” are not very pleasant for users. Let's take a look at how this affected the battery life of the iPhone 6S:

As you can see, almost nothing has changed. According to the company, this is achieved primarily through the use of a new, more energy-efficient processor. Let's believe her, especially since in reality this is approximately the case - the iPhone 6S keeps charging at the level of its predecessor.

iPhone 7 and 7 Plus battery capacity - how long does it hold a charge?

In the iPhone 7, many, including myself, were waiting, if not for a revolutionary breakthrough in battery life, then at least for a significant increase. Did you wait? Now let's find out:

The battery capacity has grown by 245 mAh for the iPhone 7 and by 150 mAh for the iPhone 7 Plus, which should give improved battery life. What Apple tells us in the specifications of the “seventh” iPhones on its website:

However, if you skip all these statements and look at the numbers, you will see that nothing has changed significantly. And some of the numbers that indicate the hours of operation have even decreased. As a result, we can conclude: all these “dances” with indicators left the autonomy at the same level - the iPhone 7 (Plus) keeps charging as long as the “sixes”.

iPhone 8 and 8 Plus battery life on a single charge

Considering the fact that the iPhone 8 is practically the same iPhone 7, it would be foolish to count on some kind of maximally increased autonomy compared to the previous model. It is logical to assume that everything will remain at “plus or minus” exactly the same level.

And here's what Apple did:

Agree, not thick. The battery capacity has become slightly lower, and all other numbers are similar to the "seven". However, Apple does not hide the fact that the iPhone 8 keeps charging exactly the same as the iPhone 7. And even explicitly indicates this in the G8 specifications.

The only thing is that the iPhone 8 has fast charging, and for some it can be a decisive factor when choosing a device.

How long does an iPhone X charge?

Flagship 2017-2018, new design, new screen, new technology, etc. This is all great, of course. But we, within the framework of this article, are interested in something else - did Apple manage to release something truly revolutionary in terms of battery life?

Let's take a look at what the iPhone X has with a battery:

  • Battery capacity - 2716 mAh.
  • Talk mode - up to 21 hours.
  • Work on the Internet - up to 12 hours.
  • Audio playback - up to 60 hours.

As you can see, the performance is almost identical to the iPhone 8 Plus. And the battery capacity is not much different. Apple itself claims that the battery life of the iPhone X on a single battery charge is up to 2 hours longer than that of the iPhone 7.

Total. The iPhone X is smaller than any Apple phone with the Plus prefix, but at the same time it is not inferior to them in autonomy. I think it's very cool!

How long does the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max charge?

Let's start with the most important:

  • The iPhone XS battery capacity is 2658 mAh.
  • The battery capacity of the iPhone XS MAX is 3174 mAh. At the moment, this is the largest battery that has ever been installed in an iPhone!

Now let's move on to the main indicators. And if we take the official data, then something unimaginable is happening here :)

The point is this.

We go to the Apple website and see this information about the operating time of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

Doesn't bother you? For example, two lines really strike me:

  1. iPhone XS lasts up to 30 minutes longer on a single charge than iPhone X.
  2. iPhone XS Max lasts up to 1.5 hours longer on a single charge than iPhone X.

And now we look at the indicators of the iPhone X (+ previous iPhone models) and we get a very interesting chain:

  1. iPhone XS lasts 30 minutes longer than iPhone X. And iPhone XS Max lasts 1.5 hours longer than iPhone X.
  2. At the same time, the iPhone X lasts 2 hours longer than the iPhone 7.
  3. But that's not all! iPhone 7 lasts 2 hours longer than iPhone 6S.

Apple, are you all right? :) Add up the indicators and get the result:

  • iPhone XS lasts 4.5 hours longer than iPhone 6S.
  • iPhone XS Max lasts 5.5 hours longer than iPhone 6S.

Is it true? So Apple has almost doubled its battery life since the iPhone 6S?

I wouldn't say so. In fact, of course, the latest Apple smartphones do hold a charge a little better. But in the end, everything comes to one denominator - the iPhone XS, with active use, keeps charging from morning to evening. The situation with the iPhone XS Max is slightly better (approximately 30% percent).

iPhone XR battery life

As usual, we open the Apple website and see such a wonderful inscription: “iPhone XR lasts up to 1.5 hours more than iPhone 8 Plus.”

If you remember the “plus eight”, then it really held its charge quite well. And here we are promised even more! Victory? Which way to look...

Based on user reviews, the battery life of the iPhone XR really isn't the worst. But! To say that he keeps charging much better than the iPhone 8 Plus (that's what the phrase "up to 1.5 hours longer" makes you think) is still not necessary.

Approximately the same? Yes. Much longer? No.

However, as we remember, a lot depends on the usage scenario.

For example, if you listen to music with headphones, then the iPhone XR will easily work for a couple of days.

But who does it? Virtually no one.

Conclusions and personal experience

Of course, all these are official figures that are related to reality, but rather indirectly.

So some personal experience. Almost all models, with a moderate load, quietly live one working day from a full charge. What is meant by moderate load? 1 hour of calls, 3 hours on the Internet (mobile Internet), 1 hour of games and music, 10-15 SMS messages. By the evening, 10-15% of the battery remains. The indicators are highly dependent on the level of the cellular network signal, if it is weak, the battery “melts” quite actively.

I would gladly sacrifice an extra millimeter in the thickness of the device in favor of increasing the iPhone's battery life. Your opinion is interesting - would you agree to such concessions in design for the sake of autonomy?
